Nothing seemed off about the hotel at first but now Dev was starting to wonder if the rumors were true. Too many coincidences, too many unexplained events, and now he was lost on what he thinks is the third floor even though the elevator said 5th floor. Meanwhile, where was that elevator exactly? It seems like each hallway of the hotel shifted after he walked down it. At first, the numbers were all prefixed with 5, now with 3. That just doesn’t add up. There was also the stillness of the place. It was noon, he should be able to hear voices in the rooms, or see other people in the hall but ever since he got to the fifth –or was it third– floor, everything had been quiet, too quiet. Pausing to look out the window, Dev realized that the sky had become nothing more but a thick grey fog. It was too foggy in fact to see anything more than a few feet away from the window. “I give up on this one, I really do,” Dev muttered aloud to himself.
“Don’t give up, Dev! You’re doing fine.” Stunned, Dev turns toward the sound of the voice. A beautiful woman in a vintage green cocktail dress was holding a champagne glass and smiling at him. “You just need to relax, you’ve been cooped up here all night.” Dev shook his head “I’m sorry but, do I know you?” The woman’s smile disappears into a snarl “How typical, you know, I thought you were different.” Confused, Dev tries to explain “Look, lady, I don’t know how you know my name, I’m just trying to find my way out of here.” The woman shakes her head “you know, they were right about you. They were all right about you. You’re just like the others and you’re gonna wind up just like the others.” Before Dev can respond the woman splashes her champagne in his face “hey, now…” Dev flinches in shock. Wiping the champagne from his face he realizes that the woman is gone but where she stood is a soaking wet ax in the middle of the hallway standing straight up, balanced perfectly on its head. “Now what the …” before Dev can finish he is interrupted by the sound of the elevator dinging. Looking to his right the doors slide open and beckon him in. Outside the window he can now see exactly where he is, facing the ocean and watching the sunset.
